We arrived at Midland, Michigan

Our drive yesterday should have had us at the Midland RV Park early in the afternoon, but Anne-Marie didn’t feel really well yesterday morning, and wasn’t in her normal get moving early mood that she has on moving days.  We got on the road well after 11:00 and the GPS was programed with the address of the RV Resort, and our estimated arrival time is 4:00PM, an OK day of travel.  We stopped for lunch around 2:00, and back on the road and the GPS now has arrival time at 4:45 and that’s ok.  Along side of towns out side of Detroit the traffic was slowing down a bit and then ok for a bit, and signs cautioning traffic about construction ahead, and traffic slows way down.  Stop and go for miles, bumper to bumper, and when we finally arrived at the RV Park and got setup, it was after 6:00PM, and I was beat.

We were outside of Detroit, and heading north and the traffic was really heavy, I found myself in a left of center lane and felt that a lane on the right of center would be safer for us, because we were traveling 4-5 miles under the speed limit of 70 MPH.  A silver Jeep must have been traveling 80, and was in the lane to the right of us, but back about 100ft behind the trailer.  I signaled right, checked the mirrors, Jeep was 100ft behind trailer and I couldn’t see that he was speeding, I started to change lanes, and the Jeep flashes his lights, and I change lanes.  The Jeep honks horn, swerves to the next right lane, it is clear, gets alongside of us honking horn and zooms past the van and attempts to cut us off short, and swerves into our lane, and Anne-Marie says “he missed us by an inch maybe two”.  The Jeeps driver seems to be talking and motioning to us, and he brakes the jeep down to the speed limit, and I drop back to give him some distance, and Anne-Marie says that he is pointing to the next exit, “He wants us to get off at this exit!”.   We continue down the freeway, and the driver motions and waves a finger at us for a couple of miles before loosing interest and speeding on.  I made the lane change at or near the speed limit, and I feel that we had ample room had the Jeep not been speeding.

We have had concerns of the black water tank having unpleasant odors way too early before it really needed to be dumped, and it had been two years since we dumped ice in the tank before moving, to give it a good scrubbing.  I bought two bags of ice before moving the trailer, and had already dumped the black water tank, and when we were stuffing the ice into the toilet, the ice in the tank had pyramided up and plugged the hole in the toilet, and we could only get one bag in.  After we were all hooked up to the van and ready for travel, and with the second bag of ice on the bathroom floor, I had Anne-Marie drive the van out of the RV spot, and to step on the brakes real hard, to settle the ice.  The ice didn’t move out of the toilet hole, and I think that it needed side to side action to settle the ice, so we could add more.  We got on the road, I was driving, and at every opportunity I was braking hard, and turning a little faster than normal, and we were on the road for about 30 minutes, and we stopped for fuel.  Anne-Marie went into the trailer, as I was fueling the van, and after a few minutes, she came out of the trailer and said that she got the remaining bag into the toilet and down the hole, but the trailer is a mess.  The mattress has slid forward off of the bed platform, and is against the wall, and she can’t budge it, some drawers shook open, a 12 pack of Dr Pepper that was on the floor, had tumbled about and a few cans were loose, a lot of the stuff on the dinette seat was on the floor, and a stack of travel brochures from the couch were scattered on the floor.  All is well now and that task is now behind us.

This RV Resort is a part of a Convention center, and it has two hotels, a Best Western and a Plaza Suites Hotel.  The convention center can handle about 1000 people, and there is nothing going on this weekend, so the hotels are also quiet, but the RV Park is full with a lot of family's.  I have found three indoor pools, each and two hot tubs, a fishing/swimming lake, two exercise rooms, and a movie theater with two screens that is open only on weekends.  A small restaurant is located in the gift shop area in the hotel and another larger restaurant/bar is located in the 10 lane bowling alley.  Families can spend a week here and not need to leave the property.
