Jet Express to Put-In-Bay

Sunday morning Anne-Marie and I drove to Port Clinton to catch a ride on the Jet Express to Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island, Ohio.

We arrived just in time for parking the van, and walking across the street to ferry office, bought tickets, got in line for the boat as it was docking, and got seats on the top deck.  These boats are larger than the ones that dock in downtown Sandusky, and there were open seats on all three sitting levels.

All around the island there were houses, looking out to Lake Erie.  This house was a ship and the front was lifted up on the bank, and made into a summer home.  There were Para-sails on the water close to the island, most all day.  Sometimes the Para-sail was close to the water, and sometimes it had some height.  The Para-sail group used two boats, one to set up the sail and rider, and the other boat had the rope attached and it would pull the rider up in the air.

As our boat pulled into the bay, we had a view of the Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial monument in the distance, and a large Coast Guard ship heading out to Lake Erie.  Almost docked in Put-In-Bay, and the bay is a busy place with some really large boats.

I’m sure that some of these boats cost more that our house that we sold back in Oregon.

An interesting information bit, the State of Ohio has really nice information signs.  The anchor and lifeboat were both built in the 1800s, and the anchor built in 1867 sank with the ship in 1902, and later salvaged.

Kimberly’s Carousel built in 1917, I never saw it turn, but they played calliope music all day and I could even hear it from the top of the monument later in the day.  The Round House Bar, this picture was taken from the Tour Train.

View from the Tour Train, lots of golf carts on the streets and a few cars.  Put-In-Bay Winery owns this old mansion, and gives tours of the building.  The tour guide had information on nearly all buildings and as we were traveling down the streets, the information came a bit fast to remember while I was taking pictures.
